Making God Priority
As we journey through life, filled with its joys, challenges, and demands, it’s easy to become consumed with our daily responsibilities. Yet, as followers of Christ, we are called to live a life that reflects our ultimate priority: a deep and abiding relationship with God.
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus reminds us, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” This powerful verse serves as a cornerstone for Christian living, urging us to place God at the center of every aspect of our lives.
Why Make God Your First Priority?
He is the Source of Life: Everything we have—our health, talents, time, and resources—comes from Him (James 1:17). When we acknowledge God as our provider, we cultivate a heart of gratitude and trust.
He Gives Us Direction: Life is full of uncertainties, but God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Prioritizing Him ensures we stay aligned with His will.
He Offers True Fulfillment: The world offers temporary satisfaction, but a relationship with God fills the deepest longings of our soul (Psalm 16:11).
Practical Steps to Make God a Priority
Begin Each Day with Prayer and Scripture: Dedicate the first moments of your day to God. Whether it’s reading a chapter of the Bible, meditating on a verse, or praying, this practice sets a spiritual tone for the day.
Evaluate Your Time: Reflect on how you spend your time. Are there activities that could be replaced with moments to connect with God? Perhaps swap some screen time for devotional reading or a quiet walk with Him.
Serve Others in His Name: One way to honor God is by loving others as He loves us. Look for opportunities to serve your family, neighbors, and church community.
Stay Connected to a Faith Community: Regular fellowship with other believers strengthens our faith and keeps us accountable. Whether through church services, Bible studies, or small groups, community is a gift from God.
Invite God into Every Decision: Before making choices, big or small, seek God’s guidance in prayer. Trust His timing and wisdom, even when it’s hard to understand.

Final Thoughts
Making God your first priority doesn’t mean you’ll have a perfect life, free from trials. However, it does mean you’ll have the peace, strength, and assurance that come from walking with Him. Remember His promise in Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
As we strive to make God our first priority, let’s support one another in prayer and encouragement. Together, we can build lives that glorify Him and reflect His love to the world.
